Elementary (K4-5)

From learning the letter A to preparing for adolescence, elementary students at Lakeland Christian School benefit from a variety of educational activities as they learn the foundations that will prepare them for the future.

Our students learn the basics of math and language arts, as well as science, Bible, computers, art, Spanish, music, physical education, and library skills. These subject areas provide students with a well-rounded education designed to promote the essential components of child development.

Students in the Elementary School are taught in self-contained classrooms, while team teaching is utilized in grades four and five. Bible is a core subject in grades K4 through 5th grade. Elementary students attend chapel every Tuesday, and daily Bible lessons are taught inthe classroom. Students participate in the Foundations and Framework reading program, an extensive instructional reading program that uses literature to develop skills in critical thinking, problem solving, and written expression. The Kindergarten through second grade teachers utilize Saxon Phonics with grammar and creative writing. The math curriculum supports mastery of math skills, understanding of concepts, and integration of problem solving. Social studies and inquiry-based science are the other academic subjects. An elementary computer lab is utilized weekly by each class for reinforcement of academic competencies and computer skills. Classes in art, music, physical education, Spanish, and library skills are also essential components of child development. Students are tested annually using the Stanford Achievement Tests. Students with mild learning disabilities are assisted by certified teachers in the Special Programs Department.

K4 – 5th grade students participate in a variety of activities that promote learning including field trips, centers, and performances. There are opportunities for enrichment through ACSI activities including the science fair, math olympics, spelling bee, and band and choral festivals. Brain Zappers is offered to 3rd and 4th grade students who academically qualify. Children enjoy Grandparents Day and look forward to Creation Care Week and Elementary Olympics each year!  Upper elementary students have the opportunity to participate in band, chorus, and chimes. K5 and first graders are welcome to participate in piano lab. Private lessons are offered to children starting in the 2nd grade. Mad Science is offered periodically as an enrichment program after school. Many students enjoy our Junior Running Program (offered in the fall and spring) and fall Flag Football league.

Elementary students are tested annually using the Stanford Achievement Test, and LCS students consistently score at or above the national norm on these standardized tests.
