Library

The 25,000-volume Leroy J. and Doris Douglass Library provides students, faculty, staff, and parents with the necessary educational resources to promote and enhance learning at Lakeland Christian School. In addition to the many books and periodicals on hand, the library sponsors an annual book fair designed to encourage reading.

Library Services:
Student Library Usage
Each week, students in grades K4-5 have a period of time set aside to visit the library. During this time, students may check out books and are taught basic library skills. Students in grades 3-12 have open access to the library. Students may check out a variety of fiction and nonfiction books or use reference materials in the library. Students have access to several computers that can be used for word processing, PowerPoint, and Internet research.  Teachers may reserve the library in order to let classes research for papers and projects.

Encyclopedia Britannica Online
The LCS library has a subscription to the Encyclopedia Britannica Online School Edition database. This online encyclopedia includes articles from approximately 400 periodicals. Students using this resource from home should use the following link to access the site: http://school.eb.com.  The library also has subscriptions for SIRS, Literature Online and Science Online. Contact the library for user names and passwords.

Accelerated Reader Program
As a participant in the Accelerated Reader (AR) program, the LCS library owns a large number of books on the AR list. Elementary students may visit the library to check out AR books and take the AR comprehension tests. AR book lists are also available at Books-A-Million, Barnes and Noble, the Lakeland Public Library and the Plant City Library.

Please be patient while the AR lists load.

Library Events:
Sonshine Harbor Christian Book Fair
For one week during the month of October, LCS hosts the Sonshine Harbor Christian Book Fair. Students and adults may purchase books for all ages, along with posters, videos and CDs. Funds raised during this week help purchase new books for the library. In October 2007, the book fair sales reached nearly $11,000, and LCS profited approximately $2,300 including cash, books for the library and employee discounts.
