LCS Kaleidoscope

LCS Kaleidoscope

"Monarch Mania" is an institution at Lakeland Christian School. For years, the school's youngest students have studied and experienced the wonder of a tiny chrysalis transforming into the beauty and grace of a monarch butterfly. So it comes as no surprise that LCS will now participate in a community-wide butterfly-themed program with a much larger scope and impact.

Kaleidoscope, Butterflies in Flight is a new program to raise funds for the construction of CommonGround, Polk County's first inclusive play experience, where children of varying abilities, disabilities and ages will be able to play together. This "play experience" will be butterfly-themed and will be located at Veterans Park adjacent to the Edgewood city tennis courts.

Lakeland Christian will participate at the Monarch level (what else!) of the Kaleidoscope program. LCS and other "Butterfly Benefactors" are sponsoring large, aluminum butterflies, which will be mounted on a raised pole and – after metamorphosis (painting) – will be displayed in various prominent locations in downtown Lakeland. The displays will be similar to the former Swansation program, whose swans still grace the Lakeland landscape.

The LCS butterfly – "The First Day" – will be designed and created by Senior-to-be Dottie Jarvis. She will create the butterfly over the summer in preparation for the fall, 2006 unveiling.

Lakeland Christian is only able to participate in this exciting program through the generosity of those who have underwritten this effort on behalf of the school. LCS grandparent Pat Blalock has effectively headed an effort to obtain funding for the LCS butterfly. Additional gifts are needed and would be appreciated. If you would like to partner with LCS in this effort, please contact:
