Parents are invited to help with small group activities planned by the teacher that are based on themes such as the ocean, nursery rhymes or Christmas.
Literacy centers involve parents on a daily basis (usually four days each week). Parents may volunteer as many times as they wish and can expect to be in the classroom for at least an hour each time. Our room mom sets up a schedule through the class calendar. During literacy centers, a parent might help with an activity such as journal writing, playing a sight word bingo game or just helping a child. All of this takes place while the teacher leads a guided reading group.
Parents and grandparents volunteer to come and read to the class. We welcome them to share their child’s favorite book(s) with the class.
