2012 Achievement Testing Change Announced

This year our school will be administering the TerraNova (Third Edition) Achievement Test instead of the Stanford Test. This assessment is published by CTB/McGraw-Hill. We are making this change in partnership with ACSI, one of our accreditation agencies, which has worked hard to provide schools with quality testing materials and data. Be assured that the TerraNova 3 is a technically sound and up-to-date assessment program and provides the most recent national comparisons. Out of the three major national achievement tests available, the TerraNova 3 is used by 42% of the schools testing in the United States which is a definitive majority of the testing demographic. It is a complete assessment program which will provide valuable information to you and to your child’s teacher about his/her academic progress. It also becomes a teaching resource for our faculty, allowing us to collect student data that, in turn, helps us make wise decisions in meeting the learning needs of your child.

Testing is scheduled for the second week full week in April. Since achievement testing is such a critical component of our school’s instructional program, we will be working with your child to help them transition to the new test. Rummage Sale Donations Needed

Lakeland Christian School will be hosting a rummage sale this spring to benefit students attending Student Leadership University. Donations are needed, and we will take anything and everything: furniture, clothes, appliances, electronics, etc. Please drop off all items at the Maintenance Building between 7:30 AM and 4 PM on school days. Senior Play to be Held March 29-31

Mark your calendar! The annual Senior Play will be held on March 29-31. There will be four performances of this year’s play, “Get Smart”: Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights at 7 PM, and Saturday afternoon at 2 PM. Tickets will go on sale in the Main Office the Monday after spring break. The Thursday and Saturday night performances will be the high school cast, and the Friday evening and Saturday afternoon performances will be the middle school cast.

Five-Year Accreditation Visit Coming Up

LCS will host visiting evaluation teams from the Association of Christian Schools International, the Florida Council of Independent Schools, the Florida Kindergarten Council, and SACS on February 21-23. The visit is an important part of the accreditation renewal process and marks the culmination of three years of preparation by the school staff. The teams consist of teachers and administrators from other accredited schools who review the entire school operation and make commendations and recommendations for school improvement.

Welcome Wednesday Scheduled for March 7

The next Welcome Wednesday Admissions Open House will be held on Wednesday, March 7, from 8:30 AM to 10:30 AM. Please invite families who might be interested in sending their children to LCS, and don’t forget to hand out the invitation cards that you received in your parent resource packet. Spring Break Set for March 12-16

Students will be on spring break from March 12-16. School offices will be open from 8 AM to 4 PM each day. There will be no Weekly Update during spring break. Students will return to classes on Monday, March 19.

Mark Your Calendars! The Annual LCS Auction is Set for April 13

The second annual “Bids, Burgers and All That Jazz!” auction will be held on Friday, April 13, at the First Presbyterian Church. This family-friendly event will feature a dinner and silent auction beginning at 6 PM with a live auction following at 7:30 PM. Tickets are $10.00/person, or you can reserve a table for $250.00. All proceeds go toward student financial aid. Sponsorship opportunities are available, so if you’re interested please contact the LCS Advancement Office. We’re also looking for auction items such as vacation homes, fishing/hunting trips or sports tickets. Eighth Grade Parent Meeting Scheduled for February 27

There will be an important meeting for all parents of current eighth graders on Monday, February 27, at 7:30 PM in the cafeteria. This meeting provides parents of rising freshmen helpful information for planning for their student’s next four years of school. College admission information and scholarship opportunities will be discussed.
