LCS 57, Tampa Prep 35
LAKELAND |
Lakeland Christian's Meghan Moore was helping to set the tone before tipoff against Tampa Prep.
The senior center helped sing the national anthem before the game and then gave an encore performance during, scoring 30 points to help the Vikings coast to a 57-35 victory over the Terrapins in the Class 2A Region 3 quarterfinals.
"I couldn't have done it without my team," Moore said. "There were some good passes and everyone did what they were supposed to do."
Moore said she wasn't expecting this coming off a self-described "bad game" in the team's previous contest. She wasted no time in erasing that performance from her mind.
Moore scored 20 first-half points, including her team's first five baskets.
"We felt like we had the advantage inside," Lakeland Christian coach Keith Overholt said. "We did a good job of executing inside."
The Vikings' continued to pile it on in the second half with the team's leading scorer, Jessica White, finally getting into the act. White didn't take a shot in the first half but finished with nine.
Ashley Wilson put in 10 for Lakeland Christian (22-4), giving the trio a combined 49 points.
Things would have been much worse for Tampa Prep (8-11) without the play of Ayala Wasser.
The scrappy point guard scored 11 first-half points to keep her team close and finished with 22.
