LCS Retains All-Sports Award, Tops County Academically

Lakeland Christian School edged out McKeel Academy to win The Ledger’s All-Sports Award for the Small School division once again.

McKeel took an early lead in the fall sports season, but the state runner-up soccer teams gave the Vikings a big boost in the winter season. Trailing by just five points after the winter season, the Vikings’ spring teams, led by the state runner-up softball team, tallied 109 points to give LCS a total of 269 points for the year. McKeel finished with 256. All Saints’ finished in third with 203 points. 

Academically, Lakeland Christian School placed higher than any school in Polk County, earning a 6th place finish in the FHSAA overall Academic Team Standings. The Vikings were the top small school and private school in the county. George Jenkins, who placed 7th, were ranked in the large-school category. 

For the fall sports season, the Viking varsity football team was the highest ranked football team in Polk County academically, landing at 9th place in 3A. The girls’ team was 11th and the boys’ swim team was 14th in 1A. For volleyball, the Lady Vikings were 9th in 4A. 

In the winter season, the LCS team was 3rd in 4A, the boys’ soccer team was 7th in 1A, the girls’ soccer team was 13th in 2A, and the competitive cheer squad was third in 1A. 

For the spring, the baseball team was 5th in 3A, softball was 8th in 3A, boys’ tennis was 12th in 1A, girls’ tennis was 15th in 1A, boys’ track and field was 5th in 1A, and girls’ track and field was third in 1A.
