Lakeland Christian SchoolOne of the core values of LCS is the belief that we are partnering with parents in the Christian education of their children. We believe that mutual respect, communication and involvement by all partners is essential for success of our mission.LCS is a school. We believe that being a Christian school and being a top-flight academic institution should not be mutually exclusive. On the contrary, we take the mandate of Colossians 3:23 that calls us to strive to be the best. We provide a variety of rigorous, engaging, academic and co-curricular activities that enable students to identify and express the full range of their unique gifts and abilities.
WHAT LED YOU TO LAKELAND CHRISTIAN SCHOOL?
I am thankful that the Lord led me to LCS as a ninth-grade student. My world would be forever changed after the Lord placed me in Dean Johnson’s office in 1983. Following Mr. Johnson’s interview, he introduced me to Mr. Musick when he heard that I ran track and cross country. It turns out that I was standing right next to Marsha Musick (now Lazenby) on the starting line of the state meet months prior to that interview and didn’t realize the Lord would allow us to run on the same team for States the following year and years to come. Dr. Sligh was my history teacher and the athletic director.
I stayed in contact with Dr. Sligh over my years in college, always yearning to teach at LCS, but first, the Lord opened doors in Raleigh, NC and at Mulberry Middle until 2003. It was then when the Lord allowed me to open Shepherd Road Christian Academy (SRCA), a preschool for infants-four year olds. In 2006, I joined LCS as the Primary Grades Principal and had served as Elementary Principal since 2011. Over the years, students from SRCA have attended and graduated from LCS and students that I taught at Mulberry Middle now send their children to LCS.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE THING TO DO IN YOUR LCS JOB?
I love seeing people all day! I love spending time with children, teachers, and parents. I am thankful for the opportunities that the Lord places in my life each day. Every day is different. I love the fact that I can share the gospel, pray with children and families, and try my best to impact the Kingdom for generations to come.
WHAT MAKES LAKELAND SPECIAL?
Lakeland is the best place to raise children. I would say that there is an opportunity for all to be a part of the Lakeland community through church, sports, the arts, and more. I believe Lakeland and LCS are magnets. Once Lakelanders grow up and try to leave the area, they may for a bit, but eventually, Lakeland pulls them back home. As parents, Chris and I hope that our children will return to Lakeland or LCS one day to invest in the lives of others, but no matter where they end up as long as they are obedient to the Lord and are impacting many for God’s Kingdom, we will be so very grateful.
