A ‘Blessing,’ a ‘Joy,’ and a ‘Non-Negotiable’: Prayer Time for LCS

Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Romans 12:12

Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. I Thessalonians 5:16-18

Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. Colossians 4:2

Parent Prayer Time

Scripture has a lot to say about prayer and clearly, as Christians, we are called to make prayer a priority in our lives. That being said, is prayer hard for you?   Does it seem like there is never a good time or enough time to just sit and pray? Do you feel uncomfortable praying with others?

In Paul Miller’s book, A Praying Life, he says “It’s hard to pray. It’s hard enough for many of us to make an honest request to a friend we trust for something we truly need. But when the request gets labeled ‘praying’ and the friend is ‘God’, things often get very tangled up. . . But prayer isn’t meant to be a problem . . . prayer is meant to be a conversation where your life and your God meet.”

One of my favorite times on campus during the week is Tuesday mornings at 8:00 am.  This is our LCS Parent Prayer Time.  Any school parent who wants to join us in the Elementary Conference Room from 8:00-8:45 am is welcome.  It is a simply structured time for us to gather together, meet with God and pray about the needs of our students, faculty and school families.  What a privilege to be able to ask God to help us as we seek to partner together in educating our children in the light of God’s Word.  James 5:16 says “The effectual prayer of a righteous man availeth much.”

Here are some comments from parents who have been a part of this prayer time over the past few years:

“It has been a blessing to lift up our teachers, individual students by grade, school families, those with health concerns, alumni on the mission field, athletic teams and so much more on a weekly basis. I feel so blessed to be able to send my children to a school where prayer is not only allowed, but encouraged!”  Donna Salmon

“Tuesday morning prayer had brought me so much joy. It is fun to pray together as LCS parents for our students, staff, campus events, etc. and then even more exciting when we see God answer those prayers.”  Payton Albritton

“It is one of the non-negotiables on my weekly schedule. Listening to the passionate prayers for the students, staff, parents and every aspect of the ministry of LCS are so encouraging and serve as a reminder of our daily dependence on the Lord. God uses the prayers of His people to accomplish His purposes here and around the world. It is a privilege to be a part of that process.” Mike Sligh

“Tuesday morning prayer has become a very special and encouraging time of the week for me.  Each week as wegather to pray, we look to the One who knows and understands the needs of the school, parents, teachers, staff and students best.  It is very encouraging and comforting to me as a parent to know that prayer is not only a priority but it is the very life-line in which decisions are made and needs are met.” Tammy Henderson

“The parent prayer time is a phenomenal way to cover our families, friends and brethren in Christ on a weekly basis. It’s a source of insight into the heart of our school, motivation to be involved in a deeper level and also a spiritual refreshment during our week. On the days when my wife and I cannot attend we miss it!” Jeff and Elisabeth Carney

“If I were to say what I enjoy most about going to prayer, it is getting to see the heart of LCS.  I love that a group of believers gather, to stand in agreement on the Word of God, for the good of a community.  Parent prayer has allowed me to see the true heart behind LCS and how truly loving the families and administration is toward the students, faculty and other families. . . . .  I think it is beautiful that Christians from different churches come together and believe together.  I think it really shows the love of Christ.”  Anonymous

Please consider joining us on Tuesday mornings.  If prayer is hard for you or if you just feel inexperienced or shy about praying in a group, just come and listen.  We will all be blessed and richer for the time we share praying in light of the Kingdom work we are privileged to be a part of here at LCS.  I look forward to seeing you on Tuesday mornings!
