Lakeland Christian SchoolOne of the core values of LCS is the belief that we are partnering with parents in the Christian education of their children. We believe that mutual respect, communication and involvement by all partners is essential for success of our mission.LCS is a school. We believe that being a Christian school and being a top-flight academic institution should not be mutually exclusive. On the contrary, we take the mandate of Colossians 3:23 that calls us to strive to be the best. We provide a variety of rigorous, engaging, academic and co-curricular activities that enable students to identify and express the full range of their unique gifts and abilities.
COVID-19 graduation ceremonies all over the US looked different for the class of 2020. LCS faculty and staff worked hard to create a ceremony experience that would honor the seniors who have achieved so much and come so far.
Student seats were all placed carefully apart, and only (up to) six family members were allowed to attend (per graduate) as the stands were very carefully set up with social distancing guidelines. All graduates, faculty, staff, and family attendees wore masks. And despite all the awkward changes made for safety reasons, all in attendance were excited to be a part of something uniquely special.
Though the threat of rain was imminent, the graduates and families mostly viewed sunshine through the first portion of the ceremony. After speeches and prayers were given, the next thing on the agenda was to be the distributions of the diplomas. But just as that was about to start, the Thor Gourd alarm sounded in warning of dangerous nearby lightning. All attendees evacuated the stadium to seek shelter awaiting the indication of safety. Once it was safe to emerge, faculty quickly kicked into gear to get seniors walking through the diploma receiving line in effort to avoid any further interruptions.
The conclusion of the ceremony was a completed and seniors lined up (spaced out) surrounding the football field to receive congratulations from their present supporting family members.
All in all, the unique evening was a success, showing that once again where there is a will, there is a way! That LCS faculty and staff does not back down to a challenge when it comes to putting their students needs first! And that the class of 2020 will forever have a school year, a graduating ceremony, and a life experience like no other.
