The best thing I can do for my child….

The best thing I can do for my child….

What’s the best thing I can do for my child as he/she begins this new school year?

What’s the best thing I can do for my child’s teachers?

What’s the best thing I can do for my child’s classmates and friends?

Sometimes we overlook the basics…

Whether at a Major League Baseball spring training site or the local Little League field, players are told to “keep your eye on the ball.” You never outgrow the need to pay attention to the basic fundamentals.

When we hit a stagnant stretch in our spiritual lives, it is usually not because we fail to grasp some intricate theological complexity. It is usually because we are neglecting some fundamental truths and practices that are essential for our growth in grace. Prayer, reading and meditating on the Word, sitting attentively under the preached Word, personal and corporate worship, and fellowship are the basics- the “means of grace”- that God has ordained for our good. When we neglect these, our spiritual walk has a noticeable limp.

So how do I help my child?

Pray for them. Pray with them. Pray for their hearts and minds to be open to learn both the academic and the spiritual lessons that will be put before them this year. Pray for wisdom and insight for your child’s teachers and administrators. Pray for your child’s classmates…yeah, even that one that drives you nuts! Pray for your fellow parents that all would partner well with one another in the raising of our children. Pray for God’s protection over our campus and school families this year. Pray for the Board of Directors of LCS as they chart the future of our school. Pray for the Advancement Department of LCS as they cultivate the biblical stewardship necessary to fund the future development of programs and facilities.

Want some help?

You recently received an LCS Prayer Card that provides a prayer focus for each day of the week. Place this in a conspicuous place that will remind you to pray for all things LCS. On the fridge, in your Bible, taped the shower wall, whatever works for you!

Participate as often as possible in the weekly Parent Prayer time. Mrs. Julie Rice, Director of Enrollment, facilitates this prayer gathering from 8:00-8:45 on Tuesday mornings in the Elementary Office Conference Room. Whether you pray aloud or silently in your heart, this time of group prayer supports our students, staff, and parents and is a wonderful encouragement to all who attend. We have seen so many answers to the prayers of this group over the years and are so appreciative of the faithful prayers of our parents!

Make the effort in your home to pause and pray together as a family. Pray for one another, for the challenges and events of life at school and at home, and for the spiritual growth of the family. Praying together develops bonds of unity and care that are very special.

Prayer is hard work!

Most things worth doing are inconvenient and take discipline. In the midst of the pursuit of school supplies, uniforms, backpacks, and the like, let’s remember the fundamental necessity of prayer. Let’s resolve to “go forward on our knees” this year and see what God will do in response to the prayers of His people!

“Men should always pray and not give up.” Luke 18:1

“Pray without ceasing” I Thessalonians 5:17

“The effectual fervent prayer of the righteous availeth much.” James 5:16
