We provide a variety of rigorous, engaging, academic and co-curricular activities that enable students to identify and express the full range of their unique gifts and abilities.With our Viking 5K right around the corner, I sat down with our LCS Cross Country and Track coach Milton Lyons. He shared some excellent information about how to get started if you want to run.
“It starts with the right equipment—your shoes,” Milton said. Investing in proper footwear is critical. You can get fitted for running shoes at a local store like FleetFeet (formerly FitNiche) at Lakeside Village.
Milton also shared three great local walking and running locations here in Lakeland:
- Lake Hollingsworth (2.84-mile loop)
- Holloway Park (Trails)
- Lake Parker (Trails)
5Ks are also fun to experience different locations in a group setting. Milton said, “It doesn’t matter what level of runner you are to take part in a 5K. Our attendants are a mixture of all running/walking levels. Some are competitive runners; some walk to support the cause, while others mix their pace between walking and jogging.”
Our Viking Invasion 5K offers a run/walk and a fun run for the kids; it’s truly a family affair. All proceeds will benefit the LCS Viking Fund, which provides the finances needed for campus improvements. Last year, we built a large covered pavilion that is used for athletic practices, PE, supervision and a variety of other events.. This year, we aim to update some of our aging playground equipment. Every day our playgrounds are filled with laughter, fun and memories. We know our kids are going to love what’s ahead!
Our 5th annual Viking’s Invasion 5k is a fun way to support our school and get moving in the process. We hope to see you on Saturday. Check out the details of the event below:
EVENT: VIKING’S INVASION 5K RUN/WALK
The 5th annual Viking Invasion 5K Run/Walk and Kids’ Fun Run will be held on Saturday, January 29th, 2022! The 5K will begin at 7:30 AM at Viking Stadium, with the Kids’ Fun Run following at 8:45 AM. All proceeds will benefit the LCS Viking Fund.
