Discovery Program Teacher

General Description: To disciple students and actively engage in the LCS community in ways that promote student growth academically, spiritually, physically, socially, and relationally for the purpose of advancing the school’s stated mission:  “To educate students in the light of God’s word to equip them for a lifetime of learning, leadership, service and worship.” The Teacher is contracted by the School Board upon the recommendation of the Principal and Headmaster.  The Principal will evaluate the performance of the Teacher and annually recommend to the Board the renew/non-renewal of the contract.
 
Qualifications:

  1. Be a born-again believer, maintaining a testimony that is above reproach.
  2. Active in local, evangelical church.
  3. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in related field.
  4. Valid ACSI and Florida teaching certificate.
  5. CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) Certified preferred, or willing to become certified.
  6. Exhibit the gift of teaching and personality that lends to effective instruction in the classroom, and positive relations with colleagues, administrators, and students.
  7. Demonstrate a commitment to Christian education.
  8. Be in agreement with the Lakeland Christian School Statement of Faith and staff qualifications.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
A.    Teaching:  The teacher has the responsibility to teach the content at each grade level(s) assigned by the administration.  In implementing that assignment the teacher is to:

  1. Teach regularly scheduled classes as assigned.
  2. Be informed as to the academic, social, spiritual, and behavioral needs of students.
  3. Employ instructional methods, means, and aids so as to provide interesting, effective, and enthusiastic teaching/learning.

B.    Teaching tasks include:

  1. Adequate preparation for each class including the meeting of objectives for each assigned curricular area.
  2. Following the Scope and Sequence, Course and Unit objectives, and textbooks as provided or as modified with the permission of the school administration.
  3. Maintaining all records as required by the School.
  4. Teaching with methods and style that are consistent with the philosophy of the school, and the goals of the curriculum.
  5. Following the policies of the school in instruction, homework, discipline, attendance, methods, and procedures so as to maintain an effective educational climate and the desired academic results.
  6. Attending and participating in scheduled meetings, in-service days, conferences, conventions, work days and other assigned professional duties.
  7. Keeping the principal/assistant principal informed of the progress of students in the classes, including the needs of the students, the needs of the teacher, and the need for    instructional materials.
  8. Following the master schedule in the time management of the school day, including the specific functions required in those assigned times.
  9. Providing adequate supervision for assigned students in the classroom and common areas of the school to insure the health, safety, and well-being of the students.

C.    Non-teaching tasks/responsibilities include:

  1. Maintaining all additional records as pertain to the management of the School and its resources as required by the school administration (inventory/materials/supplies).
  2. Providing proper supervision of students in bus and car loading areas, on field trips, and other school related activities.
  3. Attending school events as required, and as to support the total operation of the school, one’s colleagues, and the school student body.
  4. Providing spiritual counsel to students, parents and colleagues. Identifying spiritual needs and using the Word of God to meet those needs.
  5. Maintaining required professional development and credentials, and further one’s professional competence by being involved in professional growth activities .
  6. Meeting other requirements and obligations of the school as indicated by the administration.
     

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  1. Understanding of and appreciation for discipleship and the developmental needs of students.
  2. Ability to work effectively with a variety of learning styles.
  3. Experience in curriculum development is preferable.

Elementary Art Teacher

        1.    Plan lessons on art and art history in accordance with students’ learning objectives.
        2.    Prepare the classroom by gathering and setting up equipment.  
        3.    Develop students’ drawing, coloring, and painting techniques.
        4.    Provide instruction on using media such as graphite and charcoal pencils, as well as oil, acrylic, and watercolor paint.
        5.    Teach students about Art History.
        6.    Record and report on students’ progress.
        7.    Ensure that the classroom is clean after each lesson. 
        8.    Monitor inventory and source art supplies as needed. 
        9.    Work collaboratively with other Art Teachers on annual art shows, etc.

Middle School Social Studies Teacher

General Description

A Lakeland Christian School teacher is committed to sharpening minds and shepherding hearts of their students. This role requires a commitment to academic excellence, a passion for discipleship and student life, with a focus on equipping students for a lifetime of learning, leadership, service and worship.

Specific Role Description

We seek an experienced teacher who expertly blends content knowledge in the Social Sciences with ability to captivate Middle School students through differentiated instruction. This role would primarily focus on sections of 6th and/or 7th grade depending on enrollment. Content and skills in 6th grade focus on Eastern World Geography. Content and skills in 7th grade focus on Western World Geography. As with any course atLCS, critical thinking pathways must be opened whereby students continually weigh Scripture versus the concepts and events about which they are learning.

Also critical to this role is the ability to contribute to the overall campus life of Middle School students. Opportunities exist in chapels, devotional times, coaching, fine arts, and advisory. For the 24-25 school year, all faculty in Social Studies will execute unit planning in the model of Understanding by Design by McTighe and Wiggins. Significant training will be offered to all faculty during in-service and pre-service.

Upper School History Teacher

General Description

A Lakeland Christian School teacher is committed to sharpening minds and shepherding hearts of their students. This role requires a commitment to academic excellence, a passion for discipleship and student life, with a focus on equipping students for a lifetime of learning, leadership, service and worship.

Specific Role Description

We seek a content expert in two or more areas of History within our curriculum: American, Ancient World, Modern World/European. Full-time faculty members in the High School teach 6 sections with two prep periods. Full-time faculty in the Middle School teach 5 sections and lead an advisory period (pre-prepared) with two prep periods. Class periods are 45 minutes in length. Ideal candidates would be thought leaders for the department with strong content knowledge and with the ability to teach using multiple modalities in up to 3 courses. The ability to use direct instruction with expertise while winsomely explaining concepts and themes from history in a biblical worldview is critical to the roles. Candidates with experience teaching AP and/or Dual Enrollment courses would be preferred but not required. Currently our department offers three AP courses. We also offer three Dual Enrollment courses through Cedarville University.

Also critical to this role is the ability to contribute to the overall campus life of Upper School students. Opportunities exist in athletics, chapel talks and worship, bible studies, fine arts, and advisory. Upper School Master Science Teacher and STEM Lead

General Description

The RISE Institute (Research, Innovation, STEM and Entrepreneurship) and science program at Lakeland Christian School are seeking an experienced teacher and coach to join our faculty in some combination of the physical, earth, and engineering sciences. Experience with and vision for First Tech Challenge Robotics is preferred. The ideal candidate will have a sharpening the minds and shepherding the hearts of middle and high schoolers in the context of a can-do, “how might we…” student-centric, learning environment. Working directly with the Director of the RISE Institute and the Director of Academics, the ideal candidate will have the opportunity to lead the cultivation of a robust STEM program, preparing LCS students to pursue God ordained callings in the science, technology, engineering, and applied mathematics.

Accounting Specialist

General Description: The Accounting Specialist is responsible for the administration of the School’s financial aid process, state scholarships, and monthly accounting functions. In addition, this person will provide data management support and periodic reporting to key stakeholders across school segments to enhance decision making. Substitute Teacher Positions

Substitute teachers play an important role at Lakeland Christian School. When a teacher is ill or away from his/her students due to a professional obligation elsewhere, it is imperative that the school make every effort to keep instruction moving forward in spite of the teacher’s absence. Substitute Teacher Applications are processed throughout the school year when there is a need to add to the current pool of available substitutes. A processing fee of $75 is required to cover the cost of background screening and drug testing, which are required for employment.
