Music is part of the curriculum for students in kindergarten through fifth grade. Students participate in group singing, playing Orff and percussion instruments, movement and play through musical expression. We discover the various instrumental families. They learn about new and old composers, eras of music history, music from around the world, and great musical works of historical significance. Scripture, worship, and biblical truths are infused throughout the year across the curriculum.
Lower school students participate in different performances throughout the year. Students in K4- 5th grade perform for Grandparent’s Day and some grades have their own special program. As students develop their musical ability, the opportunities to share the gifts and talents God has given them become more focused. The 4th and 5th graders participate in the LCS Christmas musical. They also can be a part of the Jr. Viking Voices Choir. The choir participates in the ACSI Choral Festival, performs in Chapel and at the Spring Choir Concert. Selected students can audition for All State and All County Music Showcases.
Fifth grade students also have the amazing opportunity to start learning to play a wind instrument in the Fifth Grade Band.
