The Image of God

Vantage Podcast is a conversation with students and parents about what it means to do education in the light of God’s word. As we prepare for this upcoming year, let’s take a couple of minutes to listen to the hearts of our children.

In this episode, Geoffrey Stabler, Director of Biblical and Worldview Studies here at LCS, speaks to a group of LCS class of 22′ senior girls as they discuss what it means to be made in the image of God and reflect on the challenges that are unique to their generation.

They share about the tremendous pressures of the world and the constant state of comparison and stress they are in as they compete and compare their bodies, grades, and performance in sports and other extracurricular activities. The girls share the negative impact social media has on their lives and the unrealistic standards they are exposed to constantly.

As parents, it feels overwhelming to figure out how to help our children navigate growing up, especially in a social-media-crazed world. But, our senior girls gave great insight into what has helped them.

They said that having their parents reinforce and remind their kids often and as early as possible that every person is made in the image of God. One student shared, “Every single person is made in the image of God, and I shouldn’t view anybody as above me or below me. I should view them as brothers and sisters in Christ”. They also encouraged parents to wait to give their kids access to social media. One student shared, “It takes up valuable time in my life that I could be spending on important things.”

And lastly, they shared that they look up to their parents and depend on them to be examples. They expressed the need for open and honest communication with your children and want to hear how much you love them and are proud of them for who they are, not based on their performance. One student shared that she loves when her parents ask, “Is there something I can do to love you better?”.

On your next drive, please take some time to listen to our children share with open hearts the struggles that they face every day and also the expression of hope they have because of their identity in Christ.
